Master of Surgery in General Surgery
Master of Surgery in General Surgery or MS General Surgery is a 3-year post graduate program in the surgical field. The minimum eligibility for this is an M.B.B.S. with a minimum one-year internship. Admission to MS General Surgery is based on counseling after clearing entrance exams. NEET and AIIMS are some such entrance exams.
MS General Surgery graduates can work as Cardiac anesthesia, Anesthesiologist, Anesthesia Technician (AT), Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA), Anesthesiologist Assistant (AAs) and Medical Consultant in Apollo hospital, Ganga Hospital, UPSC, and AIIMS etc.
Subjects studied under this degree are Basic Medical Sciences as related to General Surgery, Neurosurgery, E.N.T. Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and Cardio-vascular Surgery as related to General Surgery and Recent Advances in General Surgery.
Such graduates can work in many areas like universities, hospitals, clinics, government organizations and research organizations with an average starting salary between INR 10 to 30 Lacs per year which would only increase with experience in the field.
MS General Surgery: What is it About?
MS General Surgery is a Post Graduate Academic Course imparted in the medical field of General Surgery. General Surgery is a subfield of Surgery which deals with the surgical treatment of abdominal organs, e.g. intestines inclusive esophagus, stomach, colon, liver and furthermore of the thyroid gland and hernia.
The duration of Masters in General Surgery course is 3 years, imparted in 6 Semesters, including the period of examination. If a student has completed a recognized two Year Postgraduate Diploma Course in the same subject, the period of training, including the period of examination, shall be 2 years.
The course is not available under Distance Education mode as it is practically based. The Medical Council of India (MCI) is a statutory body with the responsibility of establishing and maintaining high standards of medical education and recognition of medical qualifications in India. It registers doctors to practice in India.
MS General Surgery: Eligibility
To pursue a program in General Surgery field, students have to meet the given eligibility criteria.
- Students have to qualify 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.
- After 10+2, students have to pass the MBBS degree from a recognized university.
